Week 9 - Extension is water tight and ready for painting

So the joinery was installed yesterday and the cladding finished today so we are ready to paint next week. The guttering will hopefully also go on next week but we will have to wait and see. The amendment application for the change to the roof is being lodged so hopefully the council are prompt in the processing so that we can continue without drama next year.

Even though a lot has been achieved so far there is still so much left to do. First we have to make our final external paint selection. I have chosen a colour twice and both times it looks pinkish in the afternoon sun. This is from the magenta base to the colour to warm it up. who knew there was so much to understand about colour! I think that we have settled on triple sea fog but will have to check with brad... again!

Week 7 - The roof is on

I came home on Friday to a surprise of the roof being put on. The rooms feel great.

We had a stressful week deciding to lift the joining roof or not from 2.1 mtrs to 2.4 mtrs. Normally a no brainer but raising would mean losing our guttering from part of the existing roof as the membrane roof would now join to the old roof. We have decided to raise the roof and our architect is working on how to deal with the additional rain water onto the membrane roof. Hopefully all the time and effort pays off and council give us the go ahead!

Poppa Tom lays a perfect slab

Today Tom was on site to lay the concrete for the mid floor. We can now stand on the floor and see what view we will have from the kids bedrooms and it is awesome. Tom did a perfect job on the slab. Thanks so much Tom we really love it!

Day 17 week 3 - it is all taking shape!

The blocks are laid for the garage.

View from over the road. Even replacing those rotten retaining beams has made a huge difference.

The planter box & where the wall is for the landing at the top of the entrance stairs.

All going well so far. the weather has been great and it is great to be able to see the plans taking shape. lachlan is loving all the rock debris everywhere and throwing it around.

Reinforcements are going in

Reinforcements are in. I think the block work will start tomorrow or next week (or sometime.... if I am more vague)

Garage. The front of the house is completely changing because of the garage & front door.

This is the planter box along the stairs to the front door in the foreground.

Make digger go now...

So we are back into it! It rained this morning but the sun is starting to peek its way out from the clouds so hopefully the rain holds off this week! The footings have commenced. Sophie has lost some of her house support but Justin (builder) assures me her room will not collapse through the night. (just had to ask the question in the name of parenting!)

You can see the footings for the concrete planter box on the right which will go on one side of the stairs to the entrance.

We have lots of mud on our shoes, pants & in the car but hopefully the clay will harden over hte next week and give us a bit of a break. :)

Day 3 - The weather has turned which means the digging will stop until Tuesday

It is deceiving to see sunlight but it has been raining here. Our builder thought that doing the footings now would only set us back after the long weekend as the weather is supposed to be terrible. So here we stay until next Tuesday..

Day 2 - More Digging

The driveway was smashed out today. The excavation has begun on this part of the garage.

View of what has happened from the front. You can see the front section has been excavated away to allow for the driveway.

The grey thing is the concrete smasher.

It All Starts Today!

The house before renovation. Cant wait for the work to start and to not have the dodgiest house on the street anymore!

We had to cut down all of the trees. It was sad to see the Cherry tree go but we cant have a garage with a tree in it!

Digger is digging. We are digging down a meter to enable the bedrooms to be almost on the same level as the rest of the house.

Pile of dirt at the end of the day. The builders are having trouble getting rid of the soil as it has to much green matter in it (grass & roots) so the quarry wont accept it. This means it is taking longer as they need to do to different places to dump the dirt. The Blue hose is from the burst water pipe that the digger broke through. No water for 2 hours but luckily I had 10 litres of water for emergencies to use.

Not so keen about the porta loo under lachlans bedroom window. hopefully they can move it once the excavation work is complete.
