Floors are in and first coat of oil

We are getting to the end of the build. The builders are working on the retaining work out the front. We are excited to be able to drive into the garage as Tom and Brad poured the concrete last Thursday. The wood floors are curing until Friday and then the carpet will be in next week. I cant wait until we can unpack the house into the rooms and put the beds together.

Almost finished on the inside

Well it has taken a while but I have finally updated the blog. It has been really hectic the last few weeks driving back and forth between Auckland and Whangarei but it has been worth it.

We are all over the renovation though. Brad is sick of sleeping in the lounge room and cleaning up the dust every night!

Brad and I are really happy with how the house has shaped up. It looks completely different to the initial blog.

We will move this friday into the house. The wood floors are being laid tomorrow and Friday and the ensuite will be fitted off as well as the electrical finished. A big push. The final things will be the carpet in the bedrooms 4th April and the curtains & wardrobes when I get over the heart attack of how much these will cost on top of the build!

Love the doors. Negative detail with high gloss finish. Handles are beautiful.

Spare bedroom/ movie area for kids. Painted colour tea. This room feels great when you walk into it.

Hallway where we had the old fuse box removed. Overheight linen cupboard! Yay!

Ensuite. The tiles are in and look amazing. had the call from the builder saying the tiler had run out and they needed 3 wall tiles. We ordered them last year because of the long lead time from Italy. Luckily the showroom had 3 tiles that they lend out so we bought those.

The floor tiles
Plasma aluminium front door with negative detail. Schlage door key pad which also can be interfaced with apple products so you can open the door with your iphone. Finally a front door!!!!!

Lachlans room. I reconditioned an old metal shade that Tom found in the top of the orchard sheds. Oversized bulb really sets it off. We have done the feature wall but are looking at the map wall paper for his room.

Demolition of old house and rebuild

After a 2 week break for christmas we are back into the renovation. Justin and his team were straight into the gutting and have ripped out all of the old plasterboard and walls. They have built the roof of the joining part where the membrane roof will be. They are working on getting the new walls and window frames up and wrapping the house. The roof is going on next Tuesday and the windows in three weeks.

Week 9 - Extension is water tight and ready for painting

So the joinery was installed yesterday and the cladding finished today so we are ready to paint next week. The guttering will hopefully also go on next week but we will have to wait and see. The amendment application for the change to the roof is being lodged so hopefully the council are prompt in the processing so that we can continue without drama next year.

Even though a lot has been achieved so far there is still so much left to do. First we have to make our final external paint selection. I have chosen a colour twice and both times it looks pinkish in the afternoon sun. This is from the magenta base to the colour to warm it up. who knew there was so much to understand about colour! I think that we have settled on triple sea fog but will have to check with brad... again!
